Reflect on your gifts, talents and interests, and consider serving Meeting through one of the following committees. There is a sign up board in the library, usually in the fall. If you have questions regarding details, feel free to talk to a member of the committee.

Buildings and Grounds

Combine decision making with hands-on activities to maintain the safety and beauty of the Meetinghouse. General maintenance, landscaping and gardening provides you with the opportunity to do physical work and see tangible results. Meets monthly plus two work days a year.

Social and Hospitality

Help Meeting celebrate happy and special events, coordinate coffee and greeting, keep the social life of the Meting alive. Get to know people and what’s going on in Meeting! Meets 4-5 times a year plus co-host three events a year.

Telephone Committee

Be a part of a phone tree to make calls to people when there is a sudden change. Opportunity for new acquaintances and service to the Meeting. Little time commitment! 10 calls when needed (usually 2-3 times a year).

First Day Announcements

Word processing information for the weekly announcement sheet. Must have an answering machine and be able to get copies made and delivered to the Meetinghouse. If you are an organized person, this is a good job for you! Work independently, about 2 hours a week.

Newsletter Committee

Desktop editors, artists, writers and proofreaders can share their talents in the planning and production of the monthly newsletter. Opportunity to work as a team in publishing items for spiritual nurture and articles of interest to Quakers. Meet monthly plus some additional time commitment depending on the task.

Directory Committee

Help publish our annual directory through database administration, publishing, proofreading and tracking down “lost” members. Opportunity to contribute to a sense of community by keeping us connected via the directory.

Archives Committee

Maintain Meeting records for preservation and keep them organized and accessible. If you like history, this is a great committee to be on! Meets monthly.

Friends in Unity with Nature

Increase Meeting’s awareness of environmental issues and possible solutions through education and fun activities. Opportunity to help the earth! Meets monthly plus special project time.

AFSC

If you are interested in social issues and social change, support the work of the American Friends Service Committee by providing information and fundraising events. Meet occasionally as needed.

Memorial Committee

Provide help to Friends in planning their future affairs, and assisting in the planning and conducting of memorial services. Opportunity to help people plan constructively for the end of their lives.

Library Committee

Maintain and update Meeting’s library material. Assist in reviewing books for the Newsletter, shelving books to keep them accessible, and generally ensuring that the needs of Meeting, through the library, are met.

Website Committee

Publish and maintain Meeting related information on the World Wide Web. Consider joining if you would like to manage or learn to manage a website. Monthly meetings and additional time as needed to maintain the website.

First Day School

Help with or teach classes during 11:15 Meeting to our vibrant children. If you are patient, loving and interested in expanding children’s understanding of Quakerism, join with a team of teachers for a specific age group of your choosing. Opportunity to get to know younger members and have your heart touched by them! Teach two weeks out of four during the school year. Periodic committee meetings.

Peace and Social Concerns

Provide leadership, information and funding recommendations to the Meeting as a whole, regarding projects and activities that exemplify such Quaker testimonies as peace and social justice, both locally and world-wide. Opportunity to put your values into action! Monthly meetings plus additional 2 to 3 hours depending on project.

FCNL Committee

Stay abreast of issues of concerns to Quakers through the national Friends Committee on National Legislation office. Distribute information about concerns, encourage Friends to write to their political representatives. Opportunity to keep self and others informed, and to be with others who share a spiritual base for activism. Quarterly meetings plus monthly letter writing activity.
