Madison Monthly Meeting of the
Religious Society of Friends

Faith & Practice

While unprogrammed Friends generally don't have a mandatory theology to guide them, they do attempt to use other ways to find the Light.  One of the ways is a set of guidelines called Faith & Practice.  Faith & Practices are about thought, faith, life, & organization of a yearly meeting - generally written by a yearly meeting committee and approved by the yearly meeting as a whole.  Monthly meetings and worship groups under those monthly meetings generally adopt their yearly meeting's Faith & Practice.  If a particular yearly meeting hasn't written a Faith & Practice, the constituent meetings may adopt a Faith & Practice from another yearly meeting that meets their needs.

Faith & Practices, as stated above, are guidelines (not mandatory rules) for the meeting and its members to follow.  Thus they are written in such a manner to encourage prayerful thought and consideration and cover all aspects of the meeting's and a person's life.  They are intended to raise questions inside ourselves to help each of us discover our true spiritual and physical leadings - both individual and corporate.

Madison Monthly Meeting is a constituent meeting of Northern Yearly Meeting (NYM).  NYM has been in process of writing/developing its own Faith & Practice for several years.  To date, it has written and approved several chapters.  These chapters can be viewed and/or downloaded from the NYM website at NYM Faith & Practice Chapters.
